Surrogate Motherhood - The best surrogate mothers community

Hello,
I posted this in 'blogs', but think it is more appropriate here...

I understand that IVF success rates to the originating mother is 42% +/-. Can anyone advise on what factors influence the success rate with a gestational surrogate? For example, can the surrogate's uterus reject the embryo, and if so how probable is this? If the surrogate has been pregnant before, does this improve chances of success?
Thanks in advance for your time! Dee

Hi Dee,
I know that the clinic I worked with used to post their success rates with surrogacy - and it is a lot higher - like somewhere around 70-80% - I can not remember exactly the numbers and they are different for every clinic.

Dee,

I've learned throughout the years to ignore those numbers the clinics put out. If a transfer fails, it's not the fault of the surrogate (unless it was found she wasn't taking her meds). Sometimes there just aren't any explainations as to why a transfer will fail. A transfer with a perfect uterus and beautiful, grade A embryos will fail, where a great uterine lining and okay embryos will take.

I've had 7 embryo transfer. Of those 7 embryo transfer, 3 were success and pregnancy was achieved. 2 live births occured and 1 miscarriage at 13 weeks. 2 of those 7 failed and 2 of those 7 resulted in positive pregnancy tests, but negative beta. 3 of those transfers (frozen) were donor embryos created with donor sperm and donor egg. My husband and I didn't know who the donors were. The other 4 were with my former IPs; 2 with IMs eggs and 2 with donor eggs.

So the same uterus, which was perfect at each transfer, only 3 transfers a pregnancy was achieved and 2 tried. The embryos that we adopted had chromosomal abnormalities (testing on the baby gave us this result), so we weren't surprised when the following 2 transfers resulted in positve HPTs and negative betas.
