A Poem Written By a Surrogate

 

To Her Intended Parents

 

Michael Patrick

My Gift of Love To You

 

Was not so long ago, we were existing in our lives unconnected,

Until last fall, when an event in my life changed and we met so unexpected.

You needed a miracle from God and I’m so honored, he chose me,

To carry your child, your love, your life’s dreams you see.

 

As our histories unfolded and I learned of your joys and your sorrows,

I wanted to share your friendship, your love and happy tomorrows.

Karen, the joy I feel when your son Michael Patrick is in our conversation,

Is impossible to explain, there are no words other than jubilation.

 

As he grows in my tummy I see him grow in your heart,

In the mystery of the miracle that only the Lord above could impart.

You are the epitome of what all mothers should be I know

Your positive outpouring of love just seems to link us, it is so.

 

This baby has created a bond between us that will last forever more,

A lifelong friendship that will withstand the hands of time always to endure.

As I think of his future with you and Steve his loving Dad, it would seem

Only natural to envision him with a place on the NotreDame team.

 

I know that our faith has brought us together in this time of great joy,

And a smile curls my lips when I think of your beautiful little boy.

I look at the time that I carry this special gift that I give,

As babysitting for someone whom I’ll love as long as I shall live.

 

My memories of how we connected when we met,

And how you called to tell me I was pregnant, I will never forget.

Nor can I explain the feelings that came unto me that day, as anything but joy

As you held my hand, crying happy tears at the declaration of a boy.

 

As Michael grows within my being, I want you to know,

The amazement and love I have for the qualities that you show.

In my heart, the answer to how it all came to be is Divine intervention,

And it is sealed with love, friendship, and admiration.

 

So as we celebrate this miracle of life we both share,

Remember forever, you have a place in my heart that will never compare.

I will always feel honored to have had the chance to impart,

My gift of life, Michael Patrick, to you, from the bottom of my heart.
